Camilla, Georgia. Mrs. Kate Palmer, widow of the late Geo. W. Palmer, pioneer citizen and widely loved woman, died at her home in Mt. Zion community Friday, 6 Apr 1934, at 6:00 PM after a tedious illness of several weeks. Loved ones and friends were constant in attendance at her bedside during the days of waiting for the summons, with tender care and loving ministration. Funeral services took place Sunday, 8 Apr 1934, at 2:30 PM at Mt. Zion church, the building being crowded to overflowing with friends and relatives of this good woman gathered to pay their last tribute of love and honor. Services were conducted by Rev S. O. Thomas, pastor of Mt. Zion, assisted by Rev E. B. Sutton of Sale City. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. After service in the church, the body was laid to rest in the Mt. Zion cemetery. The pall bearers were Hubert Palmer, Albert Palmer, Julius Palmer, Sam Palmer, Dick Griner and George Williams. J. R. Bramlett of Camilla Hardware and Implement Co. was in charge. Mrs. Palmer was 79 years of age. She was born in this county in 1855, and was member of one of the oldest families of the county, growing up as the county grew and witnessing development of the county from large areas of virgin woods to farms, towns and communities. The fine, dauntless spirit of the pioneer woman was hers and characterized her long and worthy life. Industry, modesty, undying loyalty to family, home and church describe Mrs. Palmer's old fashioned womanhood, which still lives on in example and influence to bless the generations of her children. Her faith in God was her strong rock through the changing years of life and she had been a happy Christian since childhood when she united with the Baptist church. Mrs. Palmer is survived by two sons, J. L. Palmer and T. E. Palmer, and six daughters, Mrs. M. J. Akridge, Mrs. B. E. Williams, Miss Viola Palmer, Mrs. J. L. Eubanks, Mrs. Frank Jones and Mrs. O. L. Davis, all of this county. Her husband preceded her to the grave about twenty-five years ago. She leaves a number of grandchildren and several great grandchildren, a large number of other near relatives and a host of friends.
