Funeral services for Mr. Davis L. Faircloth, who died suddenly in Sanford, Fla., Sunday, 22 Dec 1935, were held in Camilla Monday, 23 Dec 1935 at 4:00 PM. The services were held at the grave in the family lot in the Old Cemetery, conducted by Rev. S. H. Bennett, pastor of the Camilla Baptist church, assisted by the Rev. M. M. Marshall, pastor of the Methodist church at Quitman, and Rev I. P. Tyson, pastor of the Camilla Methodist church. A large party of friends came up from Sanford and Quitman to attend the funeral. The funeral services were made more impressive by the singing of a quartet from Quitman composed of Messrs. Bill Shiver, John Milner, Jim Hubert and Wade Canton, which rendered "Abide With Me "and "Nearer My God to Thee." An unusual number of beautiful floral offerings from friends at Sanford, Quitman, Albany and Camilla attested the esteem in which this popular and prominent young business man was held by those with whom he had been associated in business and friends of the family formerly residing in Camilla. Messrs. J. C. Whipple, I. S. Williams, J. T. Bridges, and W. M. English, of Quitman, J. T. Milner of Perry, Fla., Doc Cooper and Carlton Davis of Sanford, and H. H. Cooper of Tallahassee, Fla., served as active pall bearers. According to the information received here Mr. Faircloth died very suddenly in Sanford following an attack of acute indigestion. The news of his death came as a great shock to his family and hundreds of friends throughout this section. Mr. Faircloth was 45 years of age. He was born and reared in Mitchell County and for many years made his home here in Camilla. About fifteen years ago he moved to Quitman where he became associated in the wholesale grocery business with his brother Mr. Stonewall Faircloth. Unusual success attended this business venture. Since the organization of the Suwannee chain of grocery stores the deceased has served as assistant manager and finally as manager of the Florida division of this organization which controls more than 200 stores. He was recognized as a businessman of exceptional ability in business circles of South Georgia and North Florida. The deceased was a son of the late D. W. Faircloth, former tax collector of Mitchell County. Besides his brother in Quitman he is survived by the following sisters: Mrs. Dave Hancock, Mrs. W. A. Childs and Miss Bertha Faircloth of Albany; Mrs. Fletcher Groom of Waycross; Mrs. Montine Swann and Miss Marion Faircloth of Savannah. Although he had been away from Camilla for a number of years, Mr. Faircloth was remembered by a host of friends in his old home who have been saddened by sudden death and who extend deepest sympathy to the bereaved members of his family.
