Mr. Hal Green Holton, 43, who was born and reared in this community, died last Friday, 30 Apr 1937, at 6:30 PM in a veterans hospital in Washington, D. D., where he had been under treatment for some time. Mr. Holton had been in ill health for several years and spent a good deal of his time in the veteran's hospital in Lake City, Fla. Recently he was transferred from Lake City to Washington in the hope of finally determining the exact nature of his trouble. He passed away while under investigation and treatment. The news of his death came as a sad shock to his fellow ex-service men in this County and the hundreds of friends who had known him from boyhood. It was not generally known that his condition was as grave as it was and the end came more or less unexpectedly to members of the family. The body arrived here Sunday night from Washington and was carried to the home of his half-brother, Mr. B. L. Holton, on North Scott Street. A large number of ex-service men met the train which arrived here shortly after midnight with the body and escorted it to the residence here. These "buddies" also acted as ah honorary escort at the funeral. Funeral services were conducted from the residence Monday, 3 May 1937, at 10:00 AM in charge of Rev S. H. Bennett, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Camilla. Many beautiful floral offerings attested the esteem of friends and enlivened the simple ceremonies. A quartet rendered several selections at the funeral. Those serving as active pall bearers were: Messrs. George Culbreth, George Shirah, C. T. Ivey, Dan Palmer, Byron Hurst and J. M. Griner. Interment was in Oakview cemetery. Mr. Holton is survived by his mother, Mrs. India Spence Holton of Pelham; two sisters, Mrs. Speer Bolton of Meigs and Mrs. F. W. Corbett of Pelham and two half-sisters, Mrs. J. H. Spence and Mrs. W. B. Ward and two half-brothers, Messrs. J. T. and B. L. Holton, all of Camilla. The sympathy of many friends is extended the grief- stricken family.
