Camilla, Georgia. Mr. Henry O. Shiver, well known Camilla merchant and an old and respected citizen of this county, died suddenly Tuesday, 10 Mar 1931, at 3:00 PM from a heart attack. He was stricken while seated in a chair at his place of business and died almost instantly. He had apparently been in his usual health and had just returned from dinner, starting out to walk down town, but was picked up by Mr. J. W. Butler in his car and brought to his place of business. Within an hour he suffered the fatal attack which carried him out. Mr. Shiver's sudden death came as a great shock to his family and friends, but especially to his son, Mr. H. A. Shiver, his business associate and constant companion, who was with him at the end. Mr. Shiver would have been 69 years of age in June. He was born and reared in Worth county, moving to Mitchell county about 1895. For more than 30 years he had been in business in Camilla. He was widely known and had a host of friends throughout the county. He took an active interest in public affairs and wielded a considerable influence in the politics of the county, though never holding a political office himself. He served as jury commissioner, by appointment, for twelve years. His advice and support was often sought by those interested in politics. Mr. Shiver was a member of no church nor secret order but he gave his support to those agencies which worked for the betterment of the community, morally and otherwise. Mr. Shiver, is survived by his second wife, who was Mrs. Texas Crosby. one son Mr. H. A. Shiver, and a little grandson, Henry Hilary. Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion Wednesday, 11 Mar 1931, at 3:00 PM and was attended by a large number of friends from this and surrounding counties. The services were conducted by Rev H. N. Burnett, Baptist minister of Sale City, assisted by Rev W. T. Halstead, pastor of the Camilla Baptist church, and Rev W. H. Ketchum, Methodist pastor of Camilla. Interment was in the family lot at Mt. Zion. Those acting as pall bearers were: J. G. Bailey, C. E. Crow, Warner Fitzgerald, O. G. Swindle, A. L. Luckey, Louis Weiner, P. C. Cullens and R. E. L. Culpepper. Mr. J. R. Bramlett of the Camilla Hardware and Implement Company was in charge of the funeral.
