Camilla, Georgia. Mr. James F. Mansfield, widely known and honored citizen of Mitchell county, died at his home in Pelham Thursday, 13 Mar 1920, a few minutes after midnight. He had been ill for some time and for several days prior to his death all hope of his recovery was abandoned by the members of his family who watched at his bedside. Although not expected, the announcement of his death brought sorrow to many friends throughout the county. Mr. Mansfield was an unusually strong character, whose rugged honesty and genial, friendly nature, endeared him to every one who knew him. For nearly twenty-five years he had served as deputy sheriff of this county, but it was as a plain, dependable citizen that he exercised his greatest influence and won him recognition as a leader in his community. Funeral services will be held form the residence in Pelham this (Friday) morning at eleven o'clock, Eastern Time. The services will be conducted by Rev. Guyton Fisher, Methodist pastor, assisted by Rev. C. C. Kiser, pastor of the Pelham Baptist church. Interment will be in the Pelham cemetery. Mr. Mansfield was 85 years of age. He had been twice married and is survived his second wife and the following children: E. J. Mansfield of St. Petersburg, Fla.; E. L. Mansfield of Jacksonville, Fla.; R. C. Mansfield of Lake City, Fla.; M. F. Mansfield of Savannah; Mrs. J. K. Williams of Miami, Fla.; Mrs. G. W. Bailey of Sanford, Fla.; Mrs. C. C. Chappell of Bainbridge; Mrs. M. W. Walters of Sylvester and Mrs. M. B. Mock of Camilla. He is also survived by a large number of grandchildren. The tender of many Camilla friends goes out to Mrs. Mock and other members of the family in this hour of their sorrow.
