Camilla, Georgia. Causing sorrow to numbers of friends throughout the county was the death of Mrs. W. W. Mercer, beloved woman of Hopeful community, who passed away on Thursday, 22 Mar 1934, evening of last week at 10:00 PM after a long and tedious illness. For several days preceding her death it was known that the end was near and all the members of her family were with her when she slipped quietly away to rest. Funeral services were held Friday, 23 Mar 1934, afternoon at Hopeful Baptist church, where Mrs. Mercer has been a devoted member for a long number of years. The church was filled with neighbors, relatives and friends of this good woman and the floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The service was conducted by Rev R. O. Martin, pastor of the church. After the service interment was made in the family lot in the cemetery by the church. Mrs. Mercer was one of the most widely beloved women of Hopeful section, where the long years of a beautiful Christian life had exerted wide influence. She was deeply interested in affairs of her community and before her health failed was a zealous worker in the church and benevolent causes of her community. Mrs. Mercer is survived by her husband and the following children: Mrs. George Shirah, Mrs. Wyatt West and Mrs. Lem Sawyer all of Hopeful community, Mrs. J. J. Parrott of Tampa, Fla., Bill and James Mercer of Hopeful. She leaves also her mother, Mrs. Mary Richardson and several brothers and sisters living in Colquitt county. Sincere sympathy of numbers of friends is extended to the bereaved family.
