Mr. Elias Van Buren Faircloth, 76, prominent farmer and beloved Mitchell county citizen, died suddenly at his home in East Mitchell Monday, 5 Oct 1942, at 11:30 AM with something like a heart attack. He was apparently in good health and the attack came without warning. News of his sudden passing caused a sad shock to hundreds of friends throughout this county and section of the state. Funeral services took place Wednesday, 7 Oct 1942, at 4:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a leading member, numbers of relatives and friends filling the little church to overflowing. Flowers in numerous and lovely pieces filling the entire chancel space. The service was conducted by Rev W. M. Davis of Meigs and Rev S. H. Bennett of Camilla, with fitting tributes and comforting hymns were sung by a mixed choir. After the church service Camilla Masonic Lodges took charge and laid the body of the departed brother to rest with all honors of the order. Grandsons of Mr. Faircloth acted as pall bearers. The were, Millwood Faircloth, John Thomas Faircloth, Harry Wright, Elmo Palmer, Rudolph Rigsby, Randolph Rigsby and Marvin Faircloth. Interment was in the church cemetery. Bramlett Funeral Home was in charge. Elias Van Buren Faircloth, lifelong resident of this county, was descended from earliest settlers of Mitchell County. He was the son of the late George W. Faircloth and Loretta Mansfield Faircloth and was born on the old family home place where his brother George W. Faircloth now lives, 1 Apr 1866. Starting out farming at an early age he has lived for a long number of years at the home where he died Monday. Fifty three years ago last December he was happily married to Miss Allie I. Williams, daughter of the late Wilburn Williams, establishing a happy and hospitable Christian home that for more than fifty years blessed all who came in or went out from the family circle. Interested in welfare of school, church and country, he gave these his hearty cooperation. He was a leader and active member in his church having served for a long number of years on the board of Deacons. Deeply interested in Masonry he had been an active member since early in life. Warm and jovial in his friendships, he endeared himself to hosts of friends through the years and his death has brought to them deep sadness and sense of loss. Surviving are his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Sam L. Palmer of Camilla; Mrs. A. T. Rigsby of Sale City; Mrs. Robert Wright of Elberton; Mrs. Herbert Varner of Moultrie and Mrs. Travis B. Merritt of Montezuma, and three sons, Albert Faircloth of Camilla; Jack Faircloth of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Judson B. Faircloth of Perry, Fla. Two other sons have preceded him in death, Hoggard Faircloth in 1933 and B. C. Faircloth in 1934. He leaves also twenty six grandchildren. All of his children and twenty three of the grandchildren were here for the funeral. His only surviving brother is George W. Faircloth and surviving sisters are Mrs. Luke Blanchard of Hinsonton; Mrs. J. L. Stripling of Camilla; Mrs. Dan H. Akridge of Pebble City and Mrs. Porta Parham of St. George.
