Shirah Rackley as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 16 Jun 1944. Camilla, Georgia. Causing widespread sorrow was the death of Mrs. R. C. Rackley, of Baconton, prominent and beloved Mitchell County woman, which occurred on Friday, 9 Jun 1944, at the Cairo hospital following a two week illness. Funeral services took place Sunday, 11 Jun 1944, at 5:00 PM at Pleasant Grove church, conducted by Rev S. H. Bennett, assisted by Rev W. L. Davis and Rev A. D. Lastinger, and attended by a large assembly of friends. Interment was in the church cemetery. Acting as pall bearers were Ernest B. Rackley, Lyman G. Hinson, J. G. Hathcock, M. P. Williams, J. T. Blackman and Vance Williams. Bramlett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Rackley was born and reared in this county and was 46 years of age when death came to her. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Shirah. She was married 27 years ago to Mr. R. C. Rackley and spent her entire married life at their home near Baconton. Mrs. Rackley was an earnest Christian and a good woman. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Baptist church, having become a member there in early childhood. Surviving are her husband and four children, Miss Mary Lou Rackley of Baconton, Mrs. James Edwards of Greenough community, Pvt. Carl B. Rackley of U. S. Armed Services of England, and Laban Rackley of Baconton. She leaves four grandchildren. Also surviving are her six sisters, Mrs. C. H. Vines of Doerun, Mrs. D. W. Adams of Baconton, Mrs. Braid Williams of Plant City, Fla., Mrs. G. W. Faircloth of Baconton, Mrs. C. F. Fowler of Pelham and Mrs. Miles Mansfield of Baker County.
