Mr. Simon Hart, aged and beloved Camilla citizen, succumbed to death Sunday morning, 23 February 1941, at 6:00 AM, the end coming quietly at his home here following a last illness of three weeks. For the past several months he had been failing fast, though he never complained, and even after he was confined to his bed he bore his suffering with the same fortitude that was characteristic of his spirit through the long years of a remarkable life. Funeral services took place at the home Monday at 10:30 AM conducted by Rev S. H. Bennett, pastor of the Baptist Church, in the presence of a large assembly of friends, relatives and neighbors. Beauty of the numerous floral pieces were emblematic of love and thoughtfulness of sympathetic friends. Six grandsons of Mr. Hart bore his casket from the home and at Oakview Cemetery lowered it to last resting place. They were Julius Crosby, Edgar Crosby, Bennett Pierce, S. B. Luckey, Otis Luckey and W. L. Hancock. J. R. Bramlett, undertaker, was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hart was born 8 Mar 1862 in Berrien County, Georgia and moved to this county when a small child. His parents were Simon and Elizabeth West Hart, his father, a Confederate soldier, died in service during the Civil War. His mother reared her children in this county and died forty-three years ago. Growing up to manhood the young Simon chose farming for his life work, farming a number of years in the community now know as Liveoak. He afterwards moved to Coolidge, where he lived for 14 years. Moving back to Camilla 15 years ago, he has lived here with his family the remainder of his life. Mr. Hart happily married 16 Apr 1882 to Miss Georgia Shiver, who has walked by his side for nearly 59 years, sharing life's work, its joys and sorrows. They celebrated their 58th Anniversary 16 April of last year. During the last years of his life he accepted with patient resignation the frailties of old age after a long and active life and was ever gentle and cheerful. He was very fond of children and found happiness in their companionship. Early in life he became a Christian and united with the Baptist church. Mr. Hart was beloved by numbers of warm friends who are saddened by his death. Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters, Miss Beatrice Hart, Mrs. Lena Crosby and Mrs. T. J. Luckey of Camilla; Mrs. M. D. Murphy of Coolidge; Mrs. W.B. Sloan of Pelham; and three sons, Sonnie J. Hart of Pelham; L. Dewey Hart and Byron E. Hart of Camilla. He leaves 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and aged sister, Mrs. W. M. Thomas of Camilla, also survives. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of numerous friends in their sadness.
