Camilla, Georgia. Numerous friends throughout the community were saddened by news of the death of Mr. Thomas J. Luckey, well known Camilla business man, 12:00 PM Sunday, 16 Jun 1946, at Phoebe Putney Memorial hospital in Albany following an illness of several days. He was carried to the hospital Thursday in serious condition and continued to grow worse. Members of his family have the warm and sincere sympathy of their numbers of friends in the sadness of their bereavement. Funeral services took place Monday, 17 Jun 1946, at 5:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, of which Mr. Luckey was a devoted member. Services were conducted by the Rev N. H. Williams, retired Methodist minister, and attended by a large assemblage of friends. Comforting hymns were beautifully sung by the choir. The flowers were numerous and beautiful. Acting as pall bearers were C. E. Gaulden, T. B. Twitty Jr., John Maples, W. W. Gee of Albany, C. E. Smith, E. G. Williford, and John Butler. Interment was in Oakview Cemetery. Thomas Jefferson Luckey was born in Camilla and would have been 62 years of age in August. He was the son of Samuel Barfield and Eliza Griner Luckey and grew up in this county, was reared on a farm and received his education from Mitchell County schools. After growing up he farmed for some time and later came to Camilla, 22 years ago and went into the dry cleaning business, which has grown steadily from time to time and just recently was transferred to a newly built spacious and well equipped building adequate for their largely increased business. Kind and affectionate of nature and friendly to everyone, he had numerous friends whom his death has brought sadness and sense of loss. He had been a member of the Baptist Church since childhood and enjoyed fellowship of the church. Thirty-seven years ago he was happily married to Miss Ethel Hart daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Simon Hart who survives him, with their children, as follows: Ottis Luckey of Camilla, S. B. Luckey of Albany, Mrs. Ivan Loomis of Ocala, Fla., Mrs. J. O. Willis of Moultrie, and Mrs. Tom Reynolds of Camilla. There are five grandchildren, Ada Lee Reynolds of Camilla, Lawayna Flynn of Moultrie, and Don, Samuel and Cecile Luckey of Albany. Also surviving are his four sisters, Mrs. J. T. Watts of Mobile, Ala., Mrs. J. T. Lee of Pompano, Fla., Mrs. J. M. Hudgins of Pelham and Mrs. Audrey McCorkle of Nashville, Tenn., and three brothers: A. L. Luckey, E. L. Luckey of Pelham and J. B. Luckey of Nashville, Tenn.
