Camilla, Georgia. Burl Maples, native Mitchell Countian and former resident of Pelham, died suddenly at his home in Mobile, Alabama on Friday, 19 Feb 1954, following a heart attack. He had lived in Mobile for the past 35 years. His body was brought back to his former home, and funeral services took place Sunday, 21 Feb 1954, afternoon at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Services were conducted by the Rev Charles C. Duncan. Pallbearers were Vaughn and Maitland Yates, Beckton Isler, Malcolm Palmer, Dolphus Palmer and Calvin Dollar. Interment was in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Irene Palmer and son, J. T. Maples of Atlanta.
