Camilla, Georgia. Charles Samuel Shirah Sr. passed away Saturday, 5 Apr 1958, at the home of his son, George W. Shirah, near Camilla, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Monday, 7 Apr 1958, at 3:00 PM, at the Hopeful Baptist Church with the Rev A. L. Croy and the Rev W. H. Rittenhouse officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Bramlett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Serving as pall bearers were his nephews, Lamar Shirah, Cleve Cranford, James Sellers, Clifford Shirah, Carl Shirah Jr., Emory Shirah and Carzell Shirah. Mr. Shirah was 65 years of age. He was born in Mitchell County in 1893, son of the late George Washington and Martha Ann Chance Shirah. He was a farmer and landowner in the Pine Cliff community and a member of Fathers Home Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, George W. of Camilla, and Charles S. Jr. of Pelham; six daughters, Mrs. W. L. Goodson and Mrs. E. E. Carroll of Sale City, Mrs. O. C. Musselwhite of Winter Haven, Fla., Mrs. Edwin Pollock and Mrs. Alice Shirah of Camilla and Mrs. E. C. Palmer of Pelham; five sisters, Mrs. J. C. Harmon of California, Mrs. W. L. Cain of Bainbridge, Mrs. J. B. Maples and Mrs. Floyd Taylor of Camilla and Mrs. Ralph Jackson of Tifton; three brothers, John E. Shirah and George W. Shirah of Camilla and Carl Shirah of Bainbridge; twenty grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
