Camilla, Georgia. Emmett E. Rackley, 70 year old Mitchell County farmer of the Greenough section, died around noon Monday, 14 Jul 1958, in the Mitchell County Hospital from injuries he received in a collision of his car and a large propane truck-trailer unit about six miles out of Camilla on the Sylvester highway. The gas truck unit was operating out of Bainbridge, Ga. The accident took place a short distance east of his home on the hill at Greenough. Both he and the truck were traveling west toward Camilla. Mr. Rackley attempted to make a left turn off the highway into his farm just below his house when the truck at the same time was attempting t pass him on the highway. The truck plowed into the left side of the auto. Deputy Sheriff Roger Brown was the first local officer on the scene and Georgia State Patrolman Roland Floyd, the Thomasville office, conducted the investigation. No charges were filed against the driver of the truck. Mr. Rackley was carried into Camilla Mitchell County Hospital and doctors had set his arm, broken in two places, when he died. Funeral services were held Tuesday, 15 Jul 1958, at 4:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and interment followed in the church cemetery in the family plot. The Rev J. R. McFarland the Rev H. N. Earnest, pastors of Pleasant Hill and Pebble City Baptist Churches officiated. Bramlett Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. Pall bearers were Oscar Rackley, Carl Rackley, Kay Williams, Vassar Rackley, Lyman Hinson, Oren Rackley, Jack Mansfield and Donnie Mansfield. Emmett Ernest Rackley was born seventy years ago in Mitchell County, the son of Cornelius and Mary V. Rackley, pioneer residents of this county. He was born a short distance of Camilla, the family later going to Pebble City section where Mr. Rackley grew to young manhood. He spent the past forty years or more in the Greenough section on the spot where he resided when he died. He was happily married in 1911 to the former Miss Pauline Mansfield, she having preceded him in death on 20 Jan 1957. Mr. Rackley was a member of the Pebble City Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Henry Jacob Rackley, who was living with his father at Greenough, Emmett Ernest Rackley Jr., of Camilla.; two daughters, Mrs. C. R. Booth of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Harry Musgrove of Albany; five brothers, Joe E. Rackley and Eldon F. Rackley of Meigs, George G. Rackley of Pelham, Carl R. Rackley of Greenough, Boyd H. Rackley of California; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Williams and Mrs. Brooks Vie of Mitchell County, and Mrs. Myrtle Brightwell of Ocala, Fla; five grandchildren, C.R. Booth Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Henry Jacob Rackley Jr., Polly, David and Sheila Rackley, all of Camilla.
