Camilla, Georgia. The entire community was sadly shocked by the sudden and unexpected death Wednesday, 10 Jan 1951, afternoon of Jessie Claud Palmer, prominent and beloved Camilla citizen from a heart attack while on the way to the hospital in Thomasville. In apparently perfect health Mr. Palmer was seized suddenly with an attack early Wednesday morning while at the breakfast table at his home. Doctors worked with him for some time and he passed through the attack alright. Arrangements were made for him to enter Archbold Hospital in Thomasville for observation and treatment and around noon Mrs. Palmer and niece Mrs. J. M. Crosson set out with Mr. Palmer for Thomasville. While passing through Ochlocknee he seemed to be suffering a collapse and the ladies rushed on the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. his two attacks and death came so suddenly that many friends did not learn of his illness until he had passed away, and hosts of friends were shocked and keenly saddened by the news. Funeral services will take place Friday, 12 Jan 1951, at 10:00 AM at the home on the Moultrie Road and will be conducted by the Rev Walter H. Blanks assisted by the Rev Charles C. Duncan. Mr. Palmer was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Palmer, beloved lifetime residents of East Mitchell. He was born at the family home several miles east of town, 23 Dec 1897, growing up on the farm where he inherited love of farming most if his life. He was a graduate of Gordon Military Institute at Barnesville and did post graduate work at other institutions of learning in the State. He was a member of the office personnel of GFA Peanut Association during World War II and has served for the past several past years as bookkeeper with Crow Chevrolet Company. Wonderfully talented as a musician he gave much pleasure through the years with generous use of his talent, with violin and voice. Amiable and gracious of manner, he was beloved by a large circle of friends. He had been a member of the Methodist church for a long number of years. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Margaret Roles, and their son, Dr. Jack R. Palmer, Assistant Professor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James L. Palmer and the following sisters and brothers; Mrs. A. J. Osteen of Charleston, S.C.; Mrs. Clyde Dewitt of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. J. T. Alexander of Waverly Hall; Mrs. J. L. Gray, Mrs. B. M. Archibald, Mrs. Ermine Branch, and Alton and Donoan Palmer all of Camilla.
