Funeral services for James Tilton Dodson, 81, who died following a lengthy illness at his residence at 7:45 a.m. Feb 23, were held at the First Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb 24. Services were in charge of the Rev. George C. Cummins, Jr., pastor, and the Rev. W. H. Dyches. Burial followed in the Cairo Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Neal Strickland, Elmer Wilcox, Aulden Hawthorne, DeLeon Shiver and Everett Woody. Honorary pallbearers were L. B. Harvard, Fritz Roberts, H. E. McKinnon, Roderick Hester, Hosea Vann, Aaron Rosser, Elmer Bell, Cory, Lee, R. D. Dyson, W. O. Crosson, Carl Minter, Rev. A. C. Phillips, C. H. Darsey and J. E. Robinson. Mr. Dodson was born Oct. 27, 1876 in Mitchell county, the son of the late Walter F. and Molly Renfrow Dodson. He has lived in this county for about 10 years and was a member of the Hopeville Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Hannibal Dodson, Havana, Fla., Herschel Dodson, Thomasville, I. W. Dodson, Thomasville, Walter Dodson, Asburn and Berriann Dodson of Jacksonville, Fla.; five daughters, Mrs. C. H. Strickland, Cairo, Mrs. Howard Strickland, Calvary, Mrs. James James Wimberly, Cairo, Mrs. Wilbur Smith, Tifton, Mrs. D. F. Tryon, Palatka, Fla.; three brothers, C. R. Dodson, Bainbridge, N. V. Dodson, Jacksonville, Fla., O. K. Dodson, Chatahootchee, Fla.; five sisters, Mrs. John Singleton, Vada, Mrs. Ruby White and Mrs. Erwin Weatherby, both of Bainbridge and Mrs J. F. Hall of Pineville, and Mrs. Jimmy Maltezos of Jacksonville, Fla., also 34 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Arrangements were in charge of Clark Funeral Home. Obituary of Maggie Mae Davis Dodson as written in (prob) "The Camilla Enterprise" dated Oct 13, 1961. Mrs. J. T. Dodson Sr., 78, well known Cairo resident, died early today at a Cairo hospital after a brief illness. She was hospitalized Tuesday fllowing a stroke. She had lived in Cairo for about eight years, moving there from Attapulgus and was the mother-in-law of former sheriff C. W. Strickland. A native of Mitchell County, she was the former Maggie Mae Davis of Mitchell County. She was married in 1904 in Mitchell County to J. T. Dodson Sr. who died in 1958. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. George Cummins, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Cairo cemetery. Clark Funeral Home is in charge. She is survived by five sons, H. D. and I. W. Dodson, Thomasville; Hannibal Dodson, Havana, Fla.; Walter C. Dodson, Port St. Joe, Fla.; and B. W. Dodson, Jacksonville, Fla.; five daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Smith, Thomasville; Mrs. C. W. Strickland and Mrs. James Wimberly, both of Cairo; Mrs. Howard Strickland, Calvary; and Mrs. Dorman Tryan, Palatka, Fla. Also surviving are two brothers, the Rev. Josh Davis and B. C. Davis, both of Moultrie; a sister, Mrs. Joe B. Dorsey, Camilla; 35 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
