Davis as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated ?? Feb 1951. James W. Davis, prominent Mitchell County citizen, died Friday morning, February 19, at his home near Hopeful Community, following a several days illness. Funeral services took place Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Hopeful Baptist Church, a large number of friends attending the rites. The Rev. W. H. Rittenhouse, pastor of the church, conducted services and music was presented by the church choir. Pallbearers were Wheat Dorsey, Clarence Davis, and Claude Dodson. Bramlett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the church cemetery. A retired farmer, Mr. Davis was born April 1, 1874 and had spent his entire life in Hopeful community. He was the son of the late Berrien C. Davis and Margaret Crosson Davis. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Annie E. Wooten, and six children: Jas. E. Davis, Camilla; Mrs. Chas. J. Dodson, Monroe; Preston O. Davis, Camilla; Mrs. Lenwood P. Singleton, Albany; C. O. Davis and Jack Davis, both of Camilla. Also surviving are two brothers, B. C. Davis, Ty Ty, and Rev. Josh Davis, Moultrie;and two sisters, Mrs. Vivian Dorsey, Hartsfield, and Mrs. Maggie Dodson, Cairo. There are eighteen grandchildren and thirteen great children.
