Miss Bertha Faircloth, 65, veteran Albany school teacher, died Sunday, 3 Mar 1963, at Eugene Talmadge Memorial Hospital in Augusta. She was admitted to the hospital 25 Feb. Funeral services were held Tuesday, 5 Mar 1963, at 4:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Albany, the pastor, Rev Brooks officiating. Born 13 Jun 1897, in Camilla, she was the daughter of the late David W. Faircloth and Nora Mansfield Faircloth. She attended State Normal College and received her A. B. Degree from Oglethorpe University and her M. A. Degree from Mercer. She did graduate study at the University of Mexico and at the University of Georgia. She was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. Miss Faircloth moved to Albany in 1930 and had taught there continuously since then until her retirement last June (1962). She became principal of Highland Avenue School when it was constructed and remained there until her retirement. She was a past president of the Classroom Teachers Association, first president of the Second District Principals Association, and served on the state textbook committee under the Herman Talmadge administration as well as on a number of other Georgia Education Association Committees. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for a number of years. Since her retirement she had made her home at Hotel Gordon. Survivors include five sisters, Mrs. N. D. Adcox and Mrs. F. H. Groom of Albany, Mrs. Kathryn Childs of Brunswick, Mrs. G. M. Swann of Savannah and Mrs. Marion F. Baker of Savannah, and a number of nieces and nephews.
