Camilla, Georgia. Thomas Carroll Palmer Sr., popular seventy-seven year old Camilla businessman, died of a heart attack around midnight Saturday, 3 Sep 1966, at Mitchell County Hospital in Camilla. He suffered the first attack early Saturday morning in his car outside his home on South Harney Street where he had just finished breakfast and was going to ride up town. He was carried to the hospital immediately where during the day and evening he became progressively worse until the came around midnight. Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Monday, 5 Sep 1966 at the First Baptist Church of Camilla where he was a member for a long number of years. His pastor, Rev Edgar T. Davis Jr. officiated at the services and interment took place in Oakview Cemetery with Bramlett Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Joe Barber Adams, James Lee Adams, Carroll Adams, Dan Palmer Jr., Hartley Palmer, Fred Sumter Jr., Harold Broack and Thad Huckabee. Mr. Palmer was born 1 Feb 1889 in Mitchell County, son of the late James H. Palmer and Laura Twitty, pioneer residents of the county. He was a farmer and landowner and prominent livestock dealer. During his last years in high school in Camilla, in a game of "hay-stack", he severely injured his knee which left him permanently crippled in one leg. He attended Donald Frazier Military School in Decatur, Ga., for a while and then came back to Camilla to begin his long farming and livestock career. In 1914 , firty-two years ago, he was happily married to the former Miss Frances Cleveland who taught school here until several years ago. Mr. Palmer listed his friends in the hundreds, referred to as a man with "the kindest heart" and always in a good humor, ready and always doing any kind of favor for those about him. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances Cleveland Palmer of Camilla; two sons, Neil B. Palmer of Tallahassee, Fla., and Tom Palmer Jr. of Chamblee, Ga; a brother, Mayor Dan Palmer Sr. of Camilla; five sisters, Mrs. W. C. Adams, Mrs. Fort Barker, Miss Louise Palmer and Mrs. E. K. Harrell Sr., all of Camilla, and Mrs. A. I. Bennett of Mobile, Ala.; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
