Found Herbert's obituary in a file folder in the Library in Albany, Georgia, no name of newspaper (probably "The Quitman Free Press"), but the date was May 31, 1973. HERBERT SHIVER DIES MAY 27: (this date is obviously wrong in the headlines - see inside obit for correct dates). Herbert C. Shiver died May 24th at his residence on Quitman, Route 1, after an illness of several months. A member of a prominent Brooks County family, he was a son of the late James B. Shiver and Minnie Ida Long Shiver. He was born in Brooks County, December 6, 1910 and had lived here all his life. He was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church and is survived by his wife, the former Miss Alice McCranie, brother and sister, W. J. Shiver of Atlanta and Mrs. Herbert L. McAllister of Quitman. Funeral services were held May 25th at the Maxwell Funeral Home, the Rev. James Hancock officiating and interment was in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery on May 25th.
