John W. Akridge Sr., a native of Mitchell County, died early Friday, 18 August 1978, in the Mitchell County Hospital. Born on 7 Apr 1896, he was married to Mrs. Emmaline Hale Akridge. He was the son of the late James B. Akridge and Mrs. Ida Eubanks Akridge. He was a member of the Antioch United Methodist Church. He was a farmer and a merchant and a veteran of World War I. Services were held at 4:00 PM Saturday, 19 August 1978, at the church. Rev Frank Parr and Rev Marvin Snipes officiated and interment was in the Akridge Hill Cemetery. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Saralen Rentz, of Gainesville, Fla.; two sons, Edgar Akridge of Sale City and John Wesley Akridge Jr. of Atlanta; one brother, Clifford Akridge of Pelham; two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Caton of Sale City and Mrs. Mack Clark of Panama City, Fla., and seven grandchildren. Parker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
