Yates as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 6 Jul 1973. Camilla, Georgia. Mitchell County lost one of its prominent business leaders early Wednesday, 4 Jul 1973, when Vaughn L. Yates, 62, of Pelham, died at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville following an illness of several years. Funeral services were held yesterday, 5 Jul 1973, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Pelham with the pastor, Rev H. William Perry, officiating. Interment followed in Pelham cemetery with Braswell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Clyde Brock, George Smith, J. A. Davis, Richard Turner, M. W. Turner, Walter Bernier, Harvey S. Edwards and Dr. Bill Arwood. A native of Decatur County he was the son of the late Henry Herman Yates and Lula Palmer Yates. He had lived in Pelham since 1912. He was a charter member of the Pelham Rotary Club and Pelham Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Pelham Development Corporation, member of the Pelham Masonic Lodge 312, Pelham Royal Arch Chapter III and the Hasan Temple of Albany, a charter member and past director of the Pinecrest Country Club, a long-time member and past chairman of the Pelham City School Board, vice president of the Pelham Banking Company, and president of Yates Motor Company. He was a member of the Pelham First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth James Yates of Pelham; a son, Charles J. Yates of Pelham; a brother, Maitland Yates Sr. of Pelham; a sister, Mrs. Becton Isler of Mobile, Ala., and three grandchildren.
