Maples as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 11 Oct 1989. Camilla, Georgia. Alfred A. Maples, 70, of Camilla died Thursday, 5 Oct 1989. Funeral Services were held at 4:00 PM Sunday, 8 Oct 1989, at Hopeful Baptist Church with the Rev Joe Holden officiating. Burial followed in Hopeful cemetery. Maples was born in Mitchell County 2 Nov 1918, the son of James Berton Maples and Mary Emma Dennard. He served in World War II. He was employed by O'Sans in Camilla. He was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Corine Maples of Camilla; two step sons James Sullivan and Billy Wayne Sullivan of Camilla; two sisters, Iona Lee of Leesburg and Betty Lou Timmons of Savannah; three brothers, Woodrow Maples of Zepher Hills, Fla., Jim Maples of Camilla, and Thomas O. Maples of San Matel, Cal.; his step mother, Ruby Maples of Savannah; and two step brothers, Gene Pope of Wakulla, Fla. and Dr. Earnest Pope of Los Angeles, Cal. Active pallbearers were Ernie Shiver, Willie B. Wimberly, Don Gilliard, Scott Smith, Lynwood Jackson and Steve Jones. Parker Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
