Camilla, Georgia. Final rites for Frank Starling Twitty Sr., were held Saturday afternoon, March 14, 1981 at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Edgar T. Davis officiating, assisted by Rev. Don Tennyson. Jarrell Cooper sang and Ron Jones was organist. Pallbearers were Raymond Muggridge, Jud Vann, Jimmy Autry, Dan Royal, B. W. Hughes, Jack Slover, Dr. A. A. McNeill and Robert Culpepper. As an honorary escort were members of the Mitchell County Bar Association, Camilla Rotary Club and employees and Directors of Planters and Citizens Bank. Interment was in Oakview Cemetery. Frank Twitty died early Friday, March 13, 1981 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for several weeks. He had undergone several operations at Palmyra Park Hospital and later was transferred to Phoebe Putney where his condition continued to deteriorate. Frank S. Twitty Sr. was born August 29, 1907, in Camilla, the son of the late Thomas Baker Twitty Sr. and the late Mrs. Tennie Wood Twitty. He grew up in Camilla, attending the public school, and later graduated from Mercer University, Macon, in 1928 with an LLB degree. He hung out his shingle in Camilla and thus began a long and distinguished career as a lawyer lasting more than 52 years. He was known far and wide as an outstanding trial lawyer and many of the major cases in this area over the past decades, both in Mitchell and surrounding counties, would find Frank Twitty Sr. of Camilla, at the table for the defense. He was aggressive and knowledgeable in behalf of the rughts of his client and rarely was bested in open court debate of the issues. In 1945 he was elected to the Legislature to represent Mitchell County and he held this post for 19 years, serving until 1964 when he chose not to offer for re-election. During this period he served as floor leader for the Talmadge and Vandiver Administrations, aside from many special assignments for the Governors and the Legislature. He was responsible for many important state legislative acts, as well as directing many projects toward his constituents in Mitchell County. Frank also served as County Attorney and Attorney for the City of Camilla for a number of years. A member of First Baptist Church in Camilla since early childhood, he served the church as a deacon many terms. He also taught an adult men's class for a number of years. Mr. Twitty was a Mason and a Shriner. He aslso served as a Vice President of Planters and Citizens Bank for a number of years, as well as Attorney for the Bank. I community activities Frank S. Twitty was always among the leaders, doing more than his share to develop the community, its schools and its churches. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elisabeth Almand Twitty of Camilla; two daughters, Mrs. Charles R. Adams of Fort Valley and Mrs. Ray Steele of Atlanta; one son, Frank S. Twitty Jr. of Camilla; a sister, Mrs. Lois Bramlett of Camilla; two brothers, T. B. Twitty Jr. and Vernon W. Twitty, both of Camilla; and eight grandchildren. Parker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
