Camilla, Georgia. Bringing widespread sorrow to relatives and friends was the death early Saturday evening, October 31st, at Mitchell County Hospital in Camilla of Hilton Burnum Baggs, age 32, of Hopeful. He had been in ill health for the past several months, his condition gradually worsening until he was carried around noon Saturday to the hospital in an unconscious conditon and it was known that the end was near. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Hopeful Baptist Church, of which he was a member, and officiating was the pastor, Rev. C. D. Justice, and Rev. E. R. Cloud. Interment took place in the Hopeful Cemetery with Bramlett Funeral Home of Camilla in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were James W. Davis, Joe Bostick, Lamar Shirah, Rodney Fitzgerald, Joe Wade, Hubert Sullivan, Neil Shiver and Pat Ward. Forming an honorary escort were C. B. Cox, Jr., E. D. Bostick, C. K. Cox, J. T. Thornton, W. J. Sullivan, Lewis Holt, Russell Sullivan, Mack Lodge, Curtis Whigham, Hal Carlisle, Charles Mathews, Bobby Kemp, Winston Cross, Edward Taylor, Bobby Sharp, Davis Lewis, Nebraska Bostick, Donald Hays, Glenn West, Cecil Thomas, J. W. Whitley, John Maples and others. Mr. Baggs was born October 9th, 1927, in Mitchell County, the son of the late Calvin T. Baggs, Sr., and Lilly Mae Burnum Baggs. He spent his entire life here in this county. After graduating from the Hopeful school he served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a farmer and landowner in Hopeful section. On December 22, 1950, he was happily married to the former Miss Betty Jo Sullivan. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Baggs, Sr.; his wife, Mrs. Betty Jo Sullivan Baggs; one son, Robert H. Baggs; two brothers, Calvin T. Baggs, Jr. and W. Cecil Baggs, both of Hopeful; and his his grandfather, E. L. Burnum, of Climax.
