Camilla, Georgia. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, March 21st at two o'clock at the First Baptist Church of Camilla for George Allen Burson Sr., eighty-two year old Mitchell County farmer and landowner who died at 8:30 P. M. Friday at Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany after a two day illness. He became ill on Wednesday evening and was carried to Mitchell County Hospital during the night, transferred early the next morning to Phoebe Putney where he died the next day. An autopsy attributed death to a ruptured gall bladder. Rev. Edgar T. Davis Jr., pastor of the First Baptist Church, of which Mr. Burson had been a member, officiated and Rev. J. B. Gresham assisted. Serving as pallbearers were James Holton, Harry Holton, Virgil Holton, Almond Spence, Billy Phelps, Harry Phelps, Webb Bullard Jr., David Luke. Interment followed in Oak View Cemetery with Bramlett Funeral Home of Camilla in charge arrangements. A male quartet singing comforting hymns at the church service was composed of Tom Collins Jr., Bill Mercer, Alex Curles and Wayne Robertson, the latter of Dalton and former minister of music of the local church. Unusually lovely and numerous were the floral offerings banked at the altar of the church and down either wall. Mr. Burson was born eighty-two years ago in the Vinegar Hill section of Walton County, the son of the late Joseph Isaac Burson and Elizabeth McCarty Burson. Mr. Burson's father died when he was sixteen years old and as the eldest son he assumed leadership of the family which moved to Mitchell County in 1902. His mother made her home with him until her death a few years ago. In October of 1907 he was happily married to the former Miss Genie Ivey and to this union six daughters and two sons were born, one of the daughters, Sara, succumbing to death from diphtheria many years ago at the tender age of four. Mr. Burson loved his family and friends and for many years entertained annually at a Burson family reunion, complete with barbecue dinner and all the trimmings. The last such occasion was about three or four years ago. In frail health for the last several summers he discontinued the summer practice but his home continued to be a gathering place for smaller family gatherings.
