Davis as written on page 8 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 29 Aug 1958. Camilla, Georgia. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, August 24, at four o'clock at the Hopeful Baptist Church for Mrs. Nannie Davis, of Bainbridge, widow of the late Rufus William Davis. Mrs. Davis died at her residence in Bainbridge at an early hour Saturday morning following an illness of several years. She was eighty-seven years of age and would have celebrated her eighty-eighth birthday on Monday, August 25th, if she had lived. Rev. Everett Rich officiated at the funeral services an was assisted by the Rev. W. H. Rittenhouse, Sr., pastor of the Hopeful Baptist Church. Interment followed in the cemetery at Hopeful by the side of her husband who had preceded her in death about thirty-five years ago. Grandsons served as pallbearers and they included Curtis Davis, C. J. Brinson, Eugene Dodson, Gerald Davis, Bernard Brinson and Davis Dodson. Forming an honorary escort were Carl Brock, Clayton Brock, Levy Harrell, John Madison Harrell, Robert Harrell, Emory Rich, Elton Brock, Woodrow Long, Ralph Davis, Cliff Bostick, Charlie Will Harrell, Casey Adams, Joe Brock, P. R. Harrell, Bowen Brock, Gene Harrell and Tom Harrell. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Fountain Head Missionary Baptist Church near Bainbridge. She was born in Wilkerson County. She and her husband resided in Hopeful where he farmed until about forty-five years ago when they moved to Bainbridge and he became engaged in the sawmill business. He died about ten years or more after they moved to Bainbridge and his widow lived since his death part of the time in Jacksonville, Fla., with one of her children but in recent years in Bainbridge with another. Mrs. Davis is survived by three sons, C. C. Davis, William R. Davis and Ira J. Davis, all of Bainbridge; four daughters, Mrs. Ophelia Dodson and Mrs. Martha Brinson, both of Bainbridge, Mrs. Marie Lucas and Mrs. Ruth Geoghagen, both of Jacksonville, Fla. Also surviving are twenty-two grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.
