Officiating was the Rev. Joe Holden, pastor, and the Rev. Edgar T. Davis, Jr., pastor of First Baptist Church of Camilla. Interment followed in Oakview Cemetery in Camilla in the Ivey family lot, with Bramlett Funeral Home in charge. Active pallbearers were Keaton Cox, Donald Hays, C. B. Cox, Calvin Baggs, Jr., George Gray, Nebraska Bostick, Glen West, and Lamar Shirah. Forming an honorary escort were John R. T. Thompson, Ike Newberry, Woodrow Griffin, Howard Davis, W. W. Kirbo, Major Henslee, Leland Sharp, Joe Wade, and Frank Harmon. Mr. Davis was born in Mitchell County on March 15, 1892, the son of Charles Jefferson Davis and Mattie Jones Davis. He was a prominent farmer and landowner in the Hopeful community where he spent his entire life. He was a member of the Hopeful Baptist Church, serving as a member of the Board of Deacons for a number of years and as Sunday School Superintendent for about fifteen years. He was associated with the Camilla Cotton Oil Company for a period of years starting in 1940. Mr. Davis was married in early life to the former Miss Madge Ivey who preceeded him in death on July 24th, 1933. In 1950, he was married to the former Miss Sadie Kirbo, who survives him along with four sons, Lynn Davis in the Armed Forces and stationed in California, the funeral services delayed last weekend for him to come, Stanley Davis in the Armed Forces in Germany, who was unable to be present, Charles J. (Jeff) Davis and James W. (Buddy) Davis, both of Camilla, a daughter, Mrs. C. V. (Martha) Thigpen of Bainbridge, two brothers, T. Ralph Davis, Camilla, and Hershel V. Davis, Columbus, one sister, Mrs. C. C. Willis, Bainbridge. Ten grandchildren also survive.
