On last Saturday, 18 Aug 1917, at 4:00 AM the little village of Flint was shocked and deeply grieved when the news spread abroad that Miss Della Collins was dead. The end came at her home. This news was soon heralded throughout the county and brought sadness to many hearts for Miss Della Collins was widely known and loved by a large circle of friends and relatives. She had been in feeble health for several months and her family and most intimate friends new the serious nature of her illness, but all were hoping for the time when she would be restored to her usual activity. Last summer she had an attack of typhoid fever, which dreaded disease made such inroads upon her constitution, that she was not able to overcome, and after months of patient lingering, she was summoned to her eternal reward. Miss Della Collins was a woman of unusual capabilities and activities, these were added to by a splendid education and extensive travel. Her consideration and generosity made her a criterion type of womanhood, which fact impressed itself upon all with whom she came in contact. For all these attributes her friends, her community and her associates will greatly miss her, and her death means to them a destructive loss. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, 19 Aug 1917, at 10:00 AM at Oakview cemetery by her pastor, Rev J. I. D. Miller, the pall bearers were Messrs. G. M. Cochran, M. O. Davis, G. C. Smith and Gerald Bird of Flint, Col R. J. Bacon and Mr. Bob Cowan of Baconton. From here a concourse of sorrowing friends witnessed the earthly end of a splendid woman, one whose place cannot be easily be filled. In this sad hour the Enterprise extends its tear of sympathy.
