The entire community was in a state of sad shock Saturday, 3 Aug 1929, morning when it was learned that Mrs. W. A. Bennett had passed away ta 8:00 AM after a short illness. Mrs. Bennett was taken ill three weeks ago with malaria which developed into a malignant type and last week she grew steadily worse though many of her friends had not learned of the seriousness of her condition. On Friday all the children were called home and all were about her bedside when her gentle spirit passed out Saturday morning. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday, 4 Aug 1929, at 10:00 AM and the entire house and yard were filled with the sorrowing friends and relatives. The services were conducted by A. W. Rees and Rev Walter C. Jones of Cairo, a close friend of the family, and who officiated at every wedding and funeral in the family for the past thirty-eight years. The services were unassuming, the choir singing comforting hymns of the church and the ministers voiced the love of friends in simple tribute at the close of a worthy life. Everyone knew how Mrs. Bennett loved flowers and there were quantities of fragrant blossoms of the beautiful colors, bespeaking the love of her friends. Interment was in the family lot at Oakview Cemetery, a long line of cars following the casket to its last resting place. Among the relatives and friends coming from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. Byron Butler, Mr. Mozelle and son of Whigham; Messrs. Alvin and Wendell Wright of Cairo; Mrs. C. C. Wightman, Mrs. Ola Wightman, Misses Edith Wightman and Mrs. W. R. Joiner of Albany; Miss Mary Roffman of Moultrie; Mrs. T. R. Bennett of Atlanta and many friends came up from Thomasville. Mrs. Bennet's life came to an end in the busy years of usefulness, at the age of fifty-six. She was born 24 Dec 1872, and was Miss Elizabeth Butler, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jim Butler. She was a twin sister of Miss Lilla Butler, now Mrs. T. R. Bennett of Atlanta. In their girlhood the twin sisters were noted for their beauty and gentle dignity and were widely popular and beloved. The deceased was married to Mr. W. A. Bennett on 7 Feb 1894, and lived her entire life in Camilla, devoting herself to her home and family, and all her thoughts and activities revolved about the home. She was widely known as the loveliest of mothers, the friendliest of neighbors and truest type of Christian mother. Early in life she had become a Christian and united with the Methodist church, of which she was a happy and loyal member through life. Though living her life quietly at home she was loved tenderly by numbers of friends, who sustain a deep loss in her death. Mrs. Bennett is survived by her husband and the following children: Mrs. C. Y. Workman of Rock Hill, S. C.; A. I. Bennett of Camilla; William Bennett of Thomasville; Marvin Bennett of Savannah; and Misses Lois and Betty Bennett who lived at home with their parents. Mrs. B. F. Manry is a foster daughter. She leaves only one sister, Mrs. T. T. Bennett of Atlanta, and one brother, Mr. Byron Butler of Whigham. The late Hardy P. Butler of Camilla, and Mrs. K. P. Wright of Cairo were brother and sister of the deceased. The sincere sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved family in their sad hour.
