Camilla, Georgia. Private James Palmer, of Company B, 106th Engineers, stationed at Camp Wheeler, died last Sunday, 5 Nov 1919, of pneumonia. The young soldier was a son of Mr. Sam P. Palmer, of this county, but was called to the service from Grady county, where he had been living for some time. The remains were shipped to Sale City Tuesday and were accompanied by Corporal L. C. Harris of the same company as the deceased. Arriving at Sale City, the body was taken in charge by relatives and friends and the funeral services were held at the Mt. Zion Baptist church, a few miles east of Camilla. Rev H. N. Burnett conducted the services, which were attended by a large number of relatives and friends. Interment followed in the Mt. Zion cemetery. Mr. Palmer is the second of the Mitchell county soldiers to die from natural causes while serving the country. Mr. Palmer had been in the service only a few weeks when attacked with measles, pneumonia developing later. He was a young man of strong physique and fine character endowed with those qualities of courage and loyalty which are essential to a good soldier. That he died before finishing his training at the Army camp makes his service and sacrifice none the less worthy of the appreciation of his fellow countrymen and his memory deserving of the honor that is accorded a patriot who gives himself to the service of his country. The citizens of the entire county sympathize deeply with the bereaved parents in their loss of a worthy son.
