All Camilla and community was saddened Tuesday, 31 Jan 1928, by the death of and aged and widely loved citizen, Mrs. Parmelia Adams Bennett, which took place at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. P. Butler, at 1:00 AM after a long illness. Mrs. Bennett suffered a fall the latter part of last NOVEMBER, breaking her hip, and the injury never healed, due to her extreme old age and feebleness and gradually the slender threads of gave way until the last, when with a scarcely perceptible change she slipped from her bed of suffering out into the better world. Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday, 1 Feb 1928, at 10:00 AM, conducted by Rev J. H. Standford, pastor of the Methodist Church, assisted by Rev A. M. Mitchell, the Presbyterian pastor. There were a large number of sorrowing friends present and many beautiful floral offerings spoke their sympathy for the bereaved ones. "Eternity," "Rock of Ages," and "Some Sweet Day" were sung by the choir. The pallbearers were Messrs. J. V. Jackson, P. R. Cleveland, J. C. Turner, R. M. Fleming, J. C. Wilson and J. D. Ledbetter. The body was laid to rest in Oakview cemetery. Mrs. Bennett was probably Camilla's oldest citizen. She was born in Tipton County, Tenn., 1 Feb 1837 and was laid to rest on the ninety-first anniversary of her birthday. She was before marriage Miss Parmelia Adams, moving with her parents to Arkansas near Little Rock, when a little girl. It was there when in early young womanhood that she was married to Mr. William L. Bennett, 12 Jan 1858. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett moved to this county in 1870 and settled on their farm a few miles west of town, where they lived for a long number of years and where there children grew up. Being both of a staunch type of Christian manhood and womanhood, they were prominent in church and neighborhood life, in the days when Camilla grew from a village into a town and their strong Christian influenced lives after they have passed on. Mrs Bennett had been a Christian since childhood when she united with the Methodist church, and she gave to it her loyal devotion as long as she lived, attending services of the church after her ninetieth birthday. She was an ardent worker in the missionary society for many years and had taught in the Sunday school and given other services as she was able. She was noted for her hospitality in the home and many of the older friends can testify of her graciousness in this old fashion trait. As long as she lived she loved her friends, young and old, in a very tender way and the last two of her birthdays that she spent on earth, she was happily surrounded with them gathered in her home. A noble mother, a loyal Christian, a sweet and gentle friend, the deceased has filled her place in a most remarkable manner and her death is mourned by many who loved her in life. Surviving the deceased are her son, Mr. W. A. Bennett and daughter, Mrs. H. P. Butler. There are twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild, who also mourn her death together with the other relatives and numerous friends. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sadness.
