Tuesday morning, 21 May 1929, about 6:30 AM, Hinsonton community was deeply saddened by the death of Mr. S. L. Akridge, who had been in ill health for several months. His death did not come unexpected to his nearby friends and relatives. He had passed the 77th milestone. Early in life he was married to Miss Elizabeth Ann Clark, and to this union were born seven children, all of whom are living except the oldest son. The family chain was broken in May 1926, when his wife was called to the great beyond to await his coming, also the oldest son, B. F. Akridge, in November the same year. Those who survive him are Mrs. A. J. Harrell, Hinsonton; Mrs. J. F. Floyd of Colquitt; Mrs. J. O. Cook of Flint; Mrs. D. R. Parker of Lakeland, Fla.; Mrs. W. E. Harrell of Hartsfield; Mr. D. H. Akridge of Sale City; one sister, Mrs. Mary Baker of Camilla, and one brother, Mr. J. L. Akridge of Cairo; also forty grand children and twenty great grand children, besides a host of other relatives and friends. He was born 13 Jul 1851 and had been a member of the Primitive Baptist church for 49 years. He had served as postmaster 34 years. He was loved for his honesty and upright dealings. Funeral services were conducted by Elders J. T. Davis, L. Johnson and Rev H. N. Burnett. Songs "Sweet Bye and Bye" and "In the Land Where We'll Never Grow Old" were rendered by Messrs. Herbert Luke, Roy Thomas, Bernie Edwards and Miss Willie G. Williams. His body was laid to rest in the Akridge cemetery Wednesday morning, 22 May 1929 at 11:00 AM. The pallbearers were six grandsons, Lafayette Harrell, Leland Cook, Bill Akridge, Bertram Akridge, Parker Akridge and Alton Akridge. "He is gone but not forgotten, Never will his memory fade, Sweetest thoughts will always linger Round the grave where he was laid."
