Obituary of David Warner Fitzgerald as written on page 7 of "The Camilla Enterprise" (Camilla, Georgia) dated 6 Jul 1956 Funeral services for David Warner Fitzgerald, 72, of Baconton, who died June 28, shortly after being taken to the hospital in Albany, were held Saturday afternoon at four o'clock at the Camilla Methodist Church. The Rev. C. L. Roberson, of Baconton, was in charge of the services and was assisted by the Rev. N. H. Williams, of Camilla. Interment followed in Oakview Cemetery in Camilla. Serving as pallbearers were McCulley Harris of Albany, John M. Maples, James H. Branch, Roger Brown, Raymond Miller and Cecil Bass. Bramlett Funeral Home of Camilla was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Fitzgerald would have celebrated his seventy birthday this last Sunday July 1. He was born in Mitchell County, the son of the late Thomas and Emma Fitzgerald. In early life he was happily married to Miss Meta Sellers, daughter of the late Thomas and Susie Sellers. A large group of children were born to this union. She died on May 17, 1933, and several years later Mr. Fitzgerald was again happily married to the former Miss Katie Mae Culpepper. She survives along with the seven daughters, Mrs. E. R. Wingate of Clearwater, Fla., Mrs. J. S. Padgett of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Gordon Collins of Baconton, Mrs. E. H. Carter of Haines City, Fla., Mrs. J. L. Piland of Pelham, Miss Maida Fitzgerald of Albany, and Mrs. H. C. Smith Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three sons, W. F. Fitzgerald of St. Petersburg, Fla., C. H. Fitzgerald of the United States Navy and Ernest W. Fitzgerald of Camilla; twenty-eight grand children and twenty great grand children; one brother, J. B. Fitzgerald of Albany and one sister, Mrs. J. C. deGraffenreid of Camilla. As a young man, and while all his children were growing up Mr. Fitzgerald was connected with the City of Camilla and headed up the Street & Sanitary Department. Around 1940 he severed his connection with the city and became a state revenue officer. When the present state administration went into office he changed jobs, becoming a deputized officer of the Mitchell County Sheriff's office. He had this job until his death. Late last summer and fall he broadened service as a deputized officer of the sheriff to help the Mitchell County Health Department enforce the rabies control program. Mr. Fitzgerald was an honorary member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association and was a member of the Baconton Baptist Church. ============================================================= "The Albany Herald" dated 29 Jun 1956 (Albany, Georgia). David Warner Fitzgerald, 72, of Baconton, died Thursday, 28 Jun 1956, night shortly after arrival at Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany. Mr. Fitzgerald had been in ill for about a year. A deputy sheriff of Mitchell County, he was a honorary member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association. He was a member of the Baconton Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 4:00 PM Saturday, 30 Jun 1956, at the Camilla Methodist Church with the Rev C. L. Roberson and the Rev N. H. Williams officiating. Interment will be in Oak View Cemetery with Bramlett Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Katie Mae Culpepper Fitzgerald; seven daughters, Mrs. E. R. Wingate of Clearwater, Fla., Mrs. J. S. Padgett of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Gordon Collins of Baconton, Mrs. E. H. Carter of Haines City, Fla., Mrs. J. L.
