J. Stratford Dies: Funeral Set Wednesday William J. Stratford, 64, of 419 2nd Ave., died Monday night, January 9, 1956 in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital of a heart attack suffered earlier Monday morning. Mr. Stratford was born on Sept. 12, 1891, in Russell County, Ala., and was the son of the late William Eli and Mattie M. Gordy Stratford of Seale Ala. Before moving to Albany 4 ˝ years ago, Mr. Stratford was formerly Chief of Police of Camilla and Pelham, a position he held for many years. At the time of his death he was employed by the Bullington Hardware and Building Supply Company of Albany. He was a member of the Camilla Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Lucile Black of Camilla; three daughters, Mrs. James E. Smith of Camilla, Mrs. C. L. DesRosier and Miss Polly Stratford, both of Albany; two sons, W. R. “Dick” Stratford of Albany and Joe Stratford of Portland, Maine; and seven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Camilla Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Duncan, pastor, will conduct the services, assisted by the Rev. N. H. Williams of Camilla. Interment will follow in Oakview Cemetery, Camilla. The following will serve as pallbearers: Active, Paul Thomas and Clint Cooper of Pelham, W. H. Tuggle, Grover Jones and J. D. Sapp of Camilla and Morton Burnett of Albany. Honorary, Judge Carl Crow, Dan Palmer, Sr., P. C. Cullens, R.E.L. Culpepper, Sr., E. J. Vann, Jr. and Drewry Ledbetter Sr., all of Camilla, John Collins, Sr., of Cotton and Arlington Brown of Albany. The Albany Undertaking Company is in charge of arrangements.
