J. Stratford, died at seven thirty o’clock Tuesday morning, April 3, 1945, at the home of his parents following a lengthy illness which began when he was sixteen years old. He had been confined to his bed for the past year and last Sunday he became critically itt, the end coming quietly two days later. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at four o’clock at the Baptist Church with Rev. S. H. Bennett, pastor, officiating and Rev. C. A. Britton, Jr., pastor of the Camilla Methodist Church, assisting, Interment followed at Oakview Cemetery. He is survived by his parents, William J. and Lucile Black Stratford, his grandmother, Mrs. J. L. Black, of Camilla; two brothers, Staff Sgt. Joe Stratford, now serving somewhere in France, and Richard Stratford, of Camilla; three sisters, Misses Betty and Polly Stratford, of Camilla, and Miss Cherie Stratford, of Moultrie. The deceased was born in Camilla and attend school here. He moved with his parents and family to Pelham when he was about sixteen and it was at that time that he suffered an illness of measles, the after effects causing his lengthy illness and death thirteen years later. He moved back to Cmailla about a year ago with his parents to make his home here and he has many friends both here and in Pelham who learned with sadness of his death and are extending sincere sympathy to his parents and members of his family. Serving as pallbearers, all cousins of the deceased, were Robert Collins, Lewis Collins, William Collins, A. L. Luckey, Steve Boynton and Judson Hall.
