Obituary of Byron Lafayette Sr. as written on page 16 of "The Camilla 
Enterprise" dated 22 Dec 1960.  Camilla, Georgia.   
Byron Lafayette Holton Sr., of Camilla, died at Mitchell County Hospital around 
eleven o'clock Friday morning, December 16th, following a lengthy illness.  He 
had, however, been able to be up and about the house until just recently.  
Simple but impressive graveside services were conducted Sunday afternoon at two 
o'clock at Oakview Cemetery in Camilla with the Rev. Edgar T. Davis, Jr., 
pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.  A quartet of men from the 
church sang.  Bramlett Funeral Home had charge of funeral arrangements.  Mr. 
Holton was a native of Mitchell County, the son of two of Mitchell County's 
pioneer citizens, the late Mr. and Mrs. Seabe Holton.  He was born and reared 
on the Holton farm west of Camilla.  As a young man he went to work at the old 
Camilla Hardware Company operated by the late Len Stripling and upon his death 
he later operated it.  In more recent years he was connected with Crow 
Chevrolet Company in Camilla, retiring from there several years ago on account 
of bad health.  For many years he was an active and loyal member of the First 
Baptist Church of Camilla, even in his feebleness attending services every 
Sunday until about a month ago.  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maggie Belle 
Thaxton Holton, a son, Byron L. Holton, Jr. of Atlanta; and a half sister, Mrs. 
Verdie Corbitt of Tifton.
