Older residents of Camilla and Mitchell County were grieved at news of the death of Albert G. McElveen which occurred Wednesday, February 9, at 11:10 o'clock at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville after an illness of two days. He was 85 years of age and is survived by one sister, Mrs. James B. Burch of Thomasville. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at his residence at 703 Gordon Avenue. Rev. Olin Cooper, pastor of Thomasville's First Methodist Church, and Rev. George Shirley, Rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment was in Laurel Hill cemetery in Thomasville. Vasser Thompson, of Camilla, served as one of the honorary pallbearers while Crockett Twitty, of Pelham, went down to serve as active pallbearer. Mr. McElveen was the son of the late Dr. Robert McElveen, eminent pioneer doctor and surgeon of the Thomasville area. His mother was the former Sarah Louise Hayes, who after the death of her first husband was married to the late Dr. William Twitty, of Camilla. Mr. McElveen was born Feb. 26, 1809, on his father's plantation "Cairo" near the present city of Cairo.
