Camilla, Georgia. Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Thornton Oliver, 84, eldest daughter of the late Jasper and Temperance Cox Thornton of this county, took place at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church on Wednesday afternoon, October 23, at three o'clock. Services were conducted by the Rev. George Dawkins. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Nephews served as pallbearers. Ivy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Oliver died in a hospital in Bainbridge after a long illness. She was born June 24, 1873 in West Mitchell. She was married in 1896 to Thomas B. Oliver. The couple built their home near Vada in Decatur County where they lived their entire married life in their hospitable Christian home until his death several years ago. After her husband death she moved to Akron, Ohio, to live for several years before moving back to her old home. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Clyde Blackerly of Climax and Mrs. Pauline McGuire of Akron, Ohio; two sons, Wade L. Oliver of Akron, Ohio and Stephen B. Oliver of Phoenix, Arizona; three brothers, J. H. Thornton of Climax, Albert N. Thornton of Miami, Fla., Claude C. Thornton of Decatur, Ala.; three sisters, Mrs. L. T. Tenkawek of Camilla, Mrs. Mamie Graham of Camilla, Mrs. Nannie DeStefano of Jacksonville, Fla.; eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. Mrs. Oliver was a niece of the late Stephen e. and J. M. Cox and cousins are Mrs. J. C. Hoggard, Mrs. J. C. Robinson, Mrs. G. L. Joiner, Sr., C. L. Taylor and Robt. C. Taylor. The Christian influence of this good woman will live on in the lives of those who knew her in life.
