Crosby Oxendine as written on page 2 of "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 23 Mar 1961. Camilla, Georgia. Suffering declining health for the past several years, Mrs. J. E. Oxendine, age 74, entered Mitchell County Hospital early last week in serious condition and died there late Saturday night. Funeral services were held at three o'clock Monday afternoon at Camilla Methodist Church with the Rev. Orman Sloat, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Sunrest Cemetery with Bramlett Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Oxendine was the former Miss Amanda Crosby, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. "Monk" Crosby, and was born and reared in Mitchell County. For many years she was a faithful and devoted member of the Camilla Methodist Church. She is a past president of the Womans Missionary Society, now termed WSCS, and taught a Sunday School class for some years. Members of Camilla Methodist Church will remember her best for her work back during the depression years of 1929 and 1930 when the members were building the current structure and money was scarce with which to do it. She and Mrs. O. G. Swindle Sr., were named by the church to go among the members and friends of the church seeking funds and they were dubbed "The Money Twins," a nickname that stuck through the years. She was a member of the Camilla Garden Club before ill health limited all activities. She possessed unusual creative and artistic ability and was called on to assist with decorations at many social events in recent years. Survivors include her husband, J. E. Oxendine, and two sisters, Mrs. C. R. Mathews and Miss Bessie Crosby, both of Sylvester.
