Eubanks charlieu@mchsi.com May 5, 2003, 9:31 pm Pelham Journal week of Sept. 12, 1957 Robert Elmon Eubanks, 55, of Route 1, Pelham, lost his life early Tuesday afternoon, September 10, 1957 when his home caught fire from an undetermined cause and burned to the ground, trapping him inside. His wife, the former Edna Irene Turner, was at work and Thomas, the youngest son, an eighth grader at Pelham High, was in school. The two older sons, Edward and Charles, Pelham graduates were enroute home from Canada where they had been working this summer. Eubanks, a painter, was alone in the house at the time of the fire. No further details were immediately available. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday September 12, in the Mt Zion Baptist Church where he was a member, with the Rev. Bob Mathis officiating. Interment will be in the Mt Zion church cemetery with Braswell Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers will be Milward Eubanks, Allen Eubanks, C.E. Akridge, A.V. Palmer, Jerome Palmer, and Ralph Eubanks. Born in Mitchell County, September 17, 1901, Eubanks is survived by his wife Edna Irene, three sons, Edward, Charles and Thomas, two brothers, L.V.
