Camilla, Georgia. Daniel Roger Parkman died of cancer at about 5:30 o'clock Saturday morning, August 16, at the Veterans Hospital in Dublin where he had been a patient for more than a year. His brother, Clyde Parkman, has been a patient there for the last six months, suffering with a heart ailment, but was well enough to have spent last weekend at home with his folks. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at four o'clock at the Cool Springs Baptist Church, Rev. Willie Freeman, of Doerun, and the Rev. Willie Brown, of Cool Springs, officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery. Nephews served as pallbearers and included Ray Parkman, Harold Dean Parkman, Harris Gene Parkman, Sammy Parkman, Roddy Gene Parkman and Hewlett Maples. Forming an honorary escort were members of the American Legion Post at Doerun and the Shriners of Moultrie. Mr. Parkman is survived by his wife, the former Miss Marie Manning, native of Foley, Ala.; one son, Junior Parkman of Foley, Ala., in service with the U. S. Marines; five brothers, Frank Parkman of Baconton, Clyde Parkman of the Greenough community, Render Parkman of Doerun, Roy Parkman of Blackshear, Ga., and Harold Parkman of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. B. B. Bobbitt of Camilla and Mrs. Albert Maples Jr. of Doerun. Mr. Parkman was born January 1, 1892, in Manchester of Meriwether County, the son of the late William Henry Parkman and Annie Bullock Parkman. The family moved to Mitchell County some forty years or more ago. As a young man he attended telegraphy school. He started out in Doerun with the railroad and then became connected with the East Coast Railroad and worked twenty years with them in Miami, Fla. About twelve years ago he was retired from the railroad and he came back to Doerun where he was called upon to serve as depot agent. His health began to fail about eight years ago and for the past three years he has spent most of his time in the veterans hospitals in Atlanta, Thomasville and Dublin, the latter place where he died after a year there. He was happily married in early life to the former Miss Marie Manning, of Foley, Ala. She suffered a complete breakdown about twelve years ago and since that time has resided in an institution in Tuskegee, Ala. Mr. Parkman was a veteran of both World Wars, his experience in telegraphy put to use during World War I by the U. S. Navy and then in World War II by the U. S. Army. During the first World War he spent most of his time at sea. Mr. Parkman was a 32nd degree Mason. He was 66 years of age.
