Dr. Vassar E. Rackley, Jr. "Doc" -FORT VALLEY - Dr. Vassar E. Rackley, 
Jr. "Doc", age 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Fort Valley on 
Sunday, February 3, 2008. Dr. Rackley was born in Mitchell County on July 13, 
1914. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930's. He graduated 
from Auburn University in 1942, a member of the Alpha Psi Fraternity. He 
obtained his veterinary license that same year, and married his wife the next. 
Both belonged to the First Baptist Church of Fort Valley. Dr. Rackley was a 
member of the Crawford County Cattlemen's Association as well as the American 
Veterinary Medical Association, and owned and operated Rackley Veterinary 
Hospital for thirty years. He grew peaches, operating Rackley Packing Shed, 
farmed, and served as a USDA food inspector until his retirement in 1991. -Dr. 
Rackley was predeceased by his wife of fifty-four years, Hulda Pearson 
Rackley. He is survived by his sister, Joyce R. Davis of Pelham, Georgia; 
children, Vassar E. Rackley, III (Betty), Thomas C. Rackley (Brenda), and Jane 
R. Simpson (Bill), all of Fort Valley; seven grandchildren; twenty great-
grandchildren. -Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rooks Funeral Home 
of Fort Valley. Graveside services will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in Fort 
Valley at 11A.M., Wednesday, February 6, 2008. The family may be contacted at 
200 Berkshire Drive in Fort Valley. -In lieu of flowers, the family would 
appreciate contributions to Hospice of Central Georgia (c/o Medcen Community 
Health Foundation, P.O. Box 6000, Macon, Georgia 31208), and/or the charity of 
your choice. -Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley has charge of arrangements.
