  Mrs. Martha Ann Chance Shirah, widow of the late G. W. Shirah, Sr., who 
preceded her in death twenty-nine years ago, died Wednesday morning at the home 
of her daughter, Mrs. Floyd Taylor, in the Pine Bluff community.  Funeral 
services were held yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at four o'clock at the 
Hopeful Baptist Church with interment afterwards in the Hopeful cemetery.  
Officiating at the last rites was the Rev. G. T. Hunt of Fla., a former pastor 
of Mrs. Shirah and long time friend.  Grandsons served as pallbearers and they 
were Charles Edward Shirah, G. E. Shirah, Clifford Shirah, Lamar Shirah, Carl 
Shirah, Jr., J. F. Harmon, Jr.  Bramlett Funeral Home of Camilla was in charge 
of arrangements.  Mrs. Shirah was born June 20, 1870, the daughter of the late 
Frank and Kissy Palmer Chance.  She was born and reared in Mitchell County and 
spent her entire life here where she and her late husband reared a large family 
of children.  She was a member of the Mr. Zion Baptist Church.  She is survived 
by five daughters, Mrs. Floyd Taylor, with whom she made her home, Mrs. Carl 
Harmon and Mrs. Dewitt Cain, both of California, Mrs. Ralph Jackson of Tifton 
and Mrs. J. B. Maples of Camilla; four sons, G. W. Shirah, Jr., J. E. Shirah, 
both of Camilla, C. S. Shirah of Pelham, and Carl Shirah of Bainbridge; two 
half-brothers, Z. H. Sellars and William Shirah, both of Moultrie; thirty-nine 
grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
