Camilla, Georgia. Charles B. Thornton, forty-four year old resident of Miami, Fla., who was born and reared in Mitchell County in the Hopeful section, came to his death some time early Sunday morning, June 2, when he fell into one of the many small canals in Miami while fishing. He went fishing late Saturday afternoon and was not seen afterwards until his body was found. His body was returned to Camilla and rested at the home of his sister, Mrs. Homer H. Keadle, on North Scott Street, until time for funeral services yesterday afternoon, Thursday, at four o'clock at the Delwood Baptist Church. Officiating ministers were the Rev. P. J. Keadle and the Rev. Charles Duncan. Bramlett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Thornton was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Thornton, of Miami, Fla., former residents of Camilla. He moved to Miami, Fla., several years ago to enter the building contractor business. Besides his parents he is survived by his wife, the former Amy McKenny, of Miami; one son, Michael; five brothers, Albert F. Thornton, William Fred Thornton and James W. Thornton, all of Miami, Brantley H. Thornton of Pelham, and Edwin D. Thornton of Camilla; two sisters, Mrs. Homer H. Keadle of Camilla and Mrs. Cliff Maples of Bridgeboro.
