Camilla, Georgia. Pelham and Mitchell County lost one of its business leaders when Daniel Grover Thigpen, age 73, died Saturday at the Gadsen County Hospital in Quincy, Fla. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at Hand Memorial Methodist Church in Pelham with the pastor, Rev. E. M. Phillips, officiating. Interment was in the Pelham Cemetery with Braswell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Fred Hand, Pryor Connell, Cleve Cranford, M. W. Turner, Jr., Frank McClain, Lonnie Andrews. Mr. Thigpen, at the time of his death, was secretary and treasurer of Hand Trading Company. He was born March 3, 1888, in Montgomery County, Ga. He moved to Pelham from Soperton, Ga. on June 27th, 1907, to take a position with the Farmers Bank of Pelham. He then accepted a position with the company including credit manager, manager of the store, and at the time of his death secretary and treasurer. He was married on April 17, 1910, to the former Miss Floy McClain who survives him along with one son, Grover Thigpen, Jr., of Charlotte, N. C.; one grandson, Dan Thigpen of Charlotte; three brothers, Oswald Thigpen of Swainsboro, Ga., Ira Thigpen of Dublin, Ga., and Pat Thigpen of Cordele, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Thigpen was a member of Hand Memorial Methodist Church, had served as a Steward and was a member of the Board of Trustees at the time of his death. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. Mr. Thigpen had been in declining health for the past four years.
