Camilla, Georgia. Thomas Baker Twitty, Sr., age 87, native of Mitchell County and son of the late pioneer residents, Dr. John Barber Twitty and Nancy Flake Twitty, died at his home on Oakland Avenue in Camilla early Friday morning, April 22, after an illness of several months. His health began to fail shortly after he and his wife entertained las July at a Twitty family reunion. During the fall and winter months he spent periods at the hospital here and in Atlanta but his strength was ever waning. Funeral services were held at three o'clock Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist Church of Camilla where he held membership for years, served as deacon, and spent almost a lifetime of devoted service and attendance. Officiating at the final rites was his pastor, the Rev. Edgar T. Davis, Jr. Interment followed in Oakview Cemetery with Bramlett Funeral Home of Camilla in charge of arrangements. Serving as pallbearers were James Lee Adams, Neil Palmer, Webb Bullard, Jr., E. K. Harrell, Jr., Hartley Palmer, Crawford Collins, all of Camilla, and Robert Bibb of Jacksonville, Fla., Willis Gibbs of Homerville, Ga. Mr. Twitty was in the drug buisness for a number of years and was the oldest registered pharmacist in Georgia. He was associated with Chickamauga Trust Company for a while and in 1935, together with his son, Vernon, established the Twitty Feed & Seed Store in Camilla. He retired from active business in January of 1958 and sold his interest in the feed business to his son, Vernon. He was a charter member of the Camilla Rotary Club. In recent years he shared with his wife, president of the Cherokee Garden Club, a love for growing flowers and spent many hours daily in his garden. Mr. Twitty's first wife was the late Tennie Eliza Wood. Their marriage took place on June 24, 1896, and to this union was born the sons and daughters who survive. She died on May 17th, 1943, and in May of 1944 Mr. Twitty was wed to the former Miss Eula Hill Culpepper wh survives him along with two daughters, Mrs. Marceline T. Smith of Atlanta, and Mrs. J. R. Bramlett of Camilla; four sons, T. B. Twitty, Jr., Frank Twitty, Sr., Vernon Twitty, all of Camilla, and Melvin Twitty of West Palm Beach, Fla. Aslo surviving are eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews. Coming from out of town to attend services last weekend for Mr. Twitty were Mr. and Mrs. Dan Bibb of Waycross; Mr. Paul Bibb of Fernandina, Fla.; Mr. Bob Bibb of Jacksonville, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Branch Lee, Mr and Mrs. Walter Lee of Waycrosss; Mr. and Mrs. Judson Bibb, Jr., of Albany; Mr. Judson Bibb, Sr., Mr. James Bibb, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; Mr. Grover Gibbs of Homerville; Mrs. Cleve Cox of Albany; Mr. Felix Bullard of Monticello, Fla.; Mrs Mattie Lou Hall of Moultrie; remaining portion of paragraph illegible.
