Williams mwilliams365@tampabay.rr.com October 1, 2006, 12:36 pm Camilla bi-weekly April 1928 Newspaper accounts from the Camilla bi-weekly April 1928 says: "Mr. Tom Williams Claimed By Death Mr. Tom Williams, a young and well known citizen of the county, passed away in the Bainbridge hospital April 24th about 1:00 o'clock, following an illness of ten weeks. He was taken with pneumonia, being very low about seven weeks, then was carried to the hospital for an operation, all this followed by gangrene, after which death gradually came. Dying at the age of twenty-six. Tom was born and reared in Mitchell county, where he was married to Miss Rebecca Godwin about six years ago; they made their home in Union community. Tom was left an orphan, quite a small boy and was taken to his grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jace Williams, who loved and cared for him until he was called to a far and better land. He was a member of the *W.O.W. and was noted for his good deeds and noble character. Funeral services were held at Union Church and were conducted by Rev. J.G. Bluett. After the service the W.O.W. took the burial in charge. He was nicely laid to rest in the Union cemetery. A large number of relatives and friends witnessed the last rites. He is survived by his wife, two children, one sister and brother. The children are: *Pinelton, age four, and Erline, age two, Brother, Norman Williams, sister, Emma Williams, both of Union community. Their friends send out their warm hearts and kind words to the sad and grieved relatives." . Additional Comments: * W.O.W. = Woodmen of the World * Penelton = Pendleton Family tales are that Thomas had his arm cut off in a sawmill accident and bled to death; however, the Camilla newspaper accounts otherwise. He was 26 at that time of his death. He did have his arm cut off.
