Rev. Charles Duncan, pastor of First Baptist Church of Camilla, officiated, and was assisted by Rev. Alvin L. Croy, of Pine Cliff Baptist Church. Interment took place in Oakview Cemetery in Camilla. Active pallbearers were Neal Shiver, Lewis Campbell, Dolph Holton, James Holton, Charles Matthews, Wilson Rivers, Billy Phelps, and Raymond Waters. An honorary escort was formed by Woodrow W. Brooks, Troy Shiver, E. T. Hughes, Robert Culpepper, Jr., George M. Perry, Sr., Walter B. Tennyson, Jessie Shiver, Duane Phelps, J. A. Mauldin, T. D. Cochran, and Dr. C. A. Stevenson, Jr. Mr. Wingate was born October 31, 1896 in Mitchell County, the son of Lewis G. Wingate and the late Lula Augusta Key Wingate. He was a veteran of World War I, where he was wounded in action. A Pharmacist by education, Mr. Wingate was a March 22, 1921 graduate of the Southern College of Pharmacy, and as a young man, practiced Pharmacy in Miami, but returned to Camilla and Mitchell County to pursue a successful career in farming, his home place, originally settled by his Wingate grandparents, who were among the pioneer settlers of Mitchell County, being located just west of Camilla off of the Newton Highway. Progressive, he was among the first farmers in Mitchell County to install an irrigation system in the mid '50's, and in addition to a general row-crop and livestock operation, he also operated Wingate Dairy. He was a member of the Pine Cliff Baptist Church and took a prominent part in its activities. In the last several months, he had suffered extensively with cancer, spending a while in the hospital in Albany, where he underwent major surgery. Mr. Wingate is survived by his father, L. G. Wingate; his wife, Ethel Musgrove Wingate; a son, Rosier (Bo) K. Wingate, Jr. and wife Louise; a daughter, Eleanor Wingate Davis and husband Jeff, all of Camilla; four brothers, Lt. Col. J. Woodrow Wingate, Albany; Joe D. Wingate, Columbus; Jake Wingate, Camilla; and Lewis G. Wingate, Atlanta; two sisters, Mrs. W. K. McCaskill, Camilla; and Mrs. Charles L.
