Memorial Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Camilla United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Trawick and the Rev. Rick Williams officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in the Yates Family Lot in Oakview Cemetery. Born July 23, 1926 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Rosier Kelly Wingate, Sr. and Ethel Lucile Musgrove Wingate. Mr. Wingate graduated from Camilla High School in 1943 and served his country in the Merchant Marines in World War II. After the War, he returned home and joined his father in the family farming operation, farming land that had been in the Wingate family for 150 years until his retirement. Mr. Wingate had served on the Board of Trustees of Ravenwood Academy, was a 50 year Mason, and a longtime member of the Camilla United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Louise Yates Wingate, Camilla; one son, R. Kelly Wingate, III & wife May, of Camilla; two daughters, Anita W. Lastinger of Albany, and Lacy W. Shiver & husband, Lynn, of Camilla; three grandchildren, Melissa T. Pollock & husband, Josh, Albany; Michael R. Wingate of Tallahassee, Fla.; and Carly Taylor of Camilla; one great-grandchild, Marlin Pollock, of Albany; one sister, Eleanor W. Simmons, of Camilla; a special niece, Susan D. Luke, of Camilla; a special nephew, Charles J. Davis, of Cairo; brothers and sisters-in-law, John S. Yates and wife, Betty Lane, of Dahlonega; and Guy Cochran and wife Celia, of Camilla. His family also included Bill and Liz Holton, Stacie and Will; Brooks and Brandi Holton, Bay and Bo; Ashley H. And Gary Nelson, Kayley and Zach; Steve Holton; and a special friend, Randy Wallace. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 818 Gordon Avenue, Thomasville, Ga., 31792 or the American Diabetes Association, 8384 Baymeadows Road, Suite 10, Jacksonville, Fla. 32256.
