Unfortunately, they are without funds to do this much needed work, but they are willing to put forth an effort to rebuild. They are relying fully on their white friends to encourage and support this work, as their membership to date is very small. This Negro Methodist church at one time was owned by the Baptists and during that year, 1849, held their first meeting in the present building. In 1880 the white Baptists desired a more favorable site and purchased the Russellville Methodist Church and this old Baptist church was sold to the colored Methodists, who own it today. Through these long years the colored people have been faithful to their church and now it is no longer a safe building. In the next few days this old building will be torn away with full intentions to rebuild through help from friends. Trees for lumber will be a great help as they can be sawed handy.
